WUT stands for Weight, Urine, Thirst. Significant changes to these three things may indicate dehydration and dehydration negatively affects sports performance. Changes may occur throughout the day, from one day to the next, or even pre- to post-exercise. Find out more from this resource here.
Research shows that 2% loss of body mass due to sweat can impair sports performance. For example: an athlete with 70.0 kg body mass is weighed before an exercise session. After the session, the athlete weighs 68.6 kg. This is a 2% loss of body mass.
A general recommendation is to replace each kilogram of body mass lost through sweat with one litre of fluids: 1 kg lost = 1 L fluid to drink. Fluids or food containing some amounts of sodium are also needed to replace sodium lost through sweat.
